The Solok bride wears the magnificent suntiang gadang, a multi-tiered crown made of gold and silver-plated ornaments shaped like flowers and leaves — a proud symbol of female virtue, honor, and wisdom. Beneath the crown, her hair is adorned with shimmering floral pins, symbolizing gentleness and inner beauty. Her upper body is wrapped in a bright red embroidered blouse, radiating courage and love. Draped over her shoulders is a golden-copper songket shawl, woven with bamboo shoot and star motifs representing growth and enlightenment. Around her neck hang layered brass necklaces, and a gold belt graces her waist — symbols of strength, fertility, and prosperity. The gold-pink songket sarong completes her appearance, exuding elegance and cultural depth.
The groom’s attire features a black velvet long coat (taluak balango) richly embroidered with golden thread — black symbolizing steadfastness, gold reflecting nobility. On his head, he wears a handwoven deta headcloth, a mark of courage and wisdom. Around his waist is a golden-purple songket sarong held by a carved traditional belt, denoting leadership and responsibility. A crossed songket sash and plaid necktie add a modern touch, symbolizing Solok’s blend of tradition and openness to change. His long black trousers with gold embroidery complete the look of a leader — firm, wise, and dignified.
The Solok traditional costume embodies the Minangkabau philosophy of adat basandi syarak, syarak basandi Kitabullah — tradition rooted in faith and virtue.
