This image shows two types of traditional cake molds, most likely made of brass or another heavy metal. Both are typical kitchen tools used in West Sumatra for making various kinds of traditional cakes.

Martabak Cake Mold (Left)

The object on the left is identified as a martabak cake mold. It has a round base with slightly curved edges. The inner surface is flat and smooth, specifically designed to produce thick, round, and dense martabak manis (also known as “terang bulan”). Along the rim, there is a broader outer frame with two or more small holes at the edges, possibly serving as handles or hanging points for the mold.

Sponge Cake Mold (Right)

The object on the right is a sponge cake mold (cetakan kue bolu). Like the martabak mold, it has a round base but features a distinct design. Its interior contains seven unique decorative shape such as stars, flowers, hearts, ovals, and a prominent pineapple motif in the center. This mold is used to make small sponge cakes or other soft traditional pastries such as kue lumpur or kue cubit that come out with beautifully embossed patterns once baked.
