Beyond serving as home decorations or dining ware, these plates came to symbolize economic success among urang rantau Minangkabau people who migrated abroad. Their luxurious motifs reflected wealth and high social status, leading many Minangkabau families to keep these plates as cherished ornaments that adorned their homes and represented pride in their prosperity.
