Engraved Metal Plate/Tray (Left)
The first object is round in shape and made of dark-colored metal. Its surface is adorned with clear and detailed embossed engravings depicting a mythical creature, possibly a dragon, surrounded by wave or cloud motifs. This object typically served as a decorative plate, dulang (a low-footed tray), or even an offering tray. In Minangkabau tradition, such plates were often used for serving food, presenting heirlooms, or as part of important ceremonial rituals.
Fish-Shaped Sponge Cake Mold (Right)
The second object is a single cake mold shaped like a fish, made of yellowish-gold brass. On its body, there is a label reading “CETAKAN KUE BOLU” (Sponge Cake Mold). Its primary function is clearly as a traditional baking mold, particularly for making kue bolu bakar or kue bahulu. The fish-shaped design produced by the mold adds an appealing appearance to the cake, while the use of brass reflects the traditional metalworking techniques once common in household utensils across Indonesia.
