Goa Batu Kapal is a unique natural tourism destination located in Jorong Ngalau Indah Phase I, Nagari Sungai Kunyit Barat, Sangir Balai Janggo District (SBJ), Solok Selatan Regency. The cave offers a fascinating geological phenomenon, featuring natural limestone formations that resemble the interior of a ship. The site is easily accessible, situated approximately 20 kilometers from Padang Aro, the capital of Solok Selatan.
To reach the cave entrance, visitors must walk about 250 meters along a footpath from the parking area, passing through serene oil palm plantations. Along the way, the natural atmosphere gradually unfolds, accompanied by fresh air and the calm of the countryside. Upon arrival, the sound of dripping water from the cave walls, combined with the fluttering of bats and swiftlets, creates a lively yet soothing natural symphony.
Although the cave has been known since 1984, it only began attracting wider attention in recent years. Locals named it Goa Batu Kapal due to its interior layout, which resembles a ship, complete with four limestone corridors likened to ship cabins—two of which are the largest and accessible to visitors.
One of the cave’s most captivating features is the natural beam of sunlight that pierces through openings in the cave ceiling, creating a dramatic and enchanting visual effect. The cave walls display a stunning blend of yellow, white, and hints of green, resembling a natural painting formed over time. Beneath the cave flows a clear stream that enhances the cool and tranquil atmosphere. On clear days, visitors may climb the surrounding rocks to reach higher points, though this activity is not recommended during the rainy season due to slippery surfaces.
